Account Security
Everything about your Backup Recovery Code, trusted devices and account protection.
How do I create an Otvut account?
Follow these steps to sign up:
- Open Otvut and tap "Create Account".
- Enter your full legal name (must match your National ID / birth certificate).
- Choose a unique username.
- Write your Backup Recovery Code — a phrase of 9 to 32 words that you will remember forever.
- Your current device will be bound as a Trusted Device automatically.
Save your Backup Code offline.
Write it down and store it somewhere safe — not just in your phone. This is the only way to recover your account if you lose your device.
What is the Backup Recovery Code and how does it work?
The
Backup Recovery Code is a phrase of
9 to 32 words you set
when creating your account. It acts as the master key to your account.
- It proves ownership if you lose your trusted device.
- It allows you to add a new device as trusted.
- It is required to delete your account permanently.
If you lose your phone and forget the Backup Code, your account cannot be recovered — ever. Otvut has no way to restore access without it.
What is the Master PIN and what can I lock with it?
The
Master PIN is a high-security lock you can apply to
any feature on
Otvut — not just notes. You can enable it to protect:
- Notes & private content
- Messages and chats
- Wallet, earnings & payouts
- Account settings
- Even the login screen itself (Lock Login)
Setting up or changing your Master PIN must be done from your
verified Master Smartphone Device with biometric / passkey verification. Once set,
you can unlock protected features from any device using the PIN.
How do I delete my account permanently?
Account deletion is intentionally strict. You must provide
all three of the following:
- Your Username.
- Your Backup Recovery Code.
- Your current device passkey (5 digits).
Once deleted, all your data, content, earnings and history are permanently removed and cannot be recovered.
Notes & Master PIN
Create, edit and protect your personal notes with the Master PIN.
How do I create a new note?
- Open Notes from the sidebar.
- Tap the + button (bottom right).
- Add a title (optional) and write your content.
- If you want to protect it, check "Lock this note".
- Tap Save Note.
How do I lock or unlock a note?
To lock: While creating or editing a note, check the
"Lock this note"
option and save. Locked notes appear with a red lock badge.
To unlock/view:
- Tap the unlock icon on the locked note card.
- Enter your Master PIN in the popup.
- The content will be revealed if the PIN is correct.
If you have not set up a Master PIN yet, you must set it
first from your verified Master Smartphone Device.
How do I set up or change my Master PIN?
Setting up or changing your Master PIN
must be done from your verified Master Smartphone
Device — this is a strict security measure.
- Open Otvut on your Master Smartphone Device.
- Go to Settings → Security → Master PIN.
- Verify using your device biometric / passkey.
- Enter your new PIN (or pattern / password).
- Save — you can now use this PIN from any device.
Attempting to set up Master PIN from a non-Master
device will fail with a security error. This is by design.
Devices & Login
Passwordless login and device management.
How do I log in to Otvut?
Otvut uses
passwordless login:
- Open the Otvut app on your trusted device.
- Use your phone's passkey / biometric (fingerprint, face, or PIN).
- You will be logged in automatically — no password, no OTP needed.
This works because your device is permanently bound to your
account as a Trusted Device in our secure database.
I lost my phone. How do I add a new trusted device?
If you still remember your Backup Recovery Code, you can register a new device:
- Open Otvut on your new device.
- Tap "Add as Trusted Device" on the login screen.
- Enter your Username.
- Enter your Backup Recovery Code.
- Enter your new device passkey (5 digits).
Your new device will be verified within 12 hours
and become your trusted device. No old phone required.
How do I remove or manage my trusted devices?
- Go to Settings → Security → Trusted Devices.
- You will see a list of all devices bound to your account.
- Tap the device you want to remove and choose Revoke.
- Confirm using your Master PIN or biometric.
You cannot revoke your current Master Smartphone Device from
itself — you must do it from another trusted device.
Earnings & Payouts
How to earn on Otvut and how payouts work.
What are the main ways to earn on Otvut?
Otvut offers three primary earning channels:
- Content Monetization (main source) — earn from your original posts, articles, videos, courses, paid content and reactions.
- Referral Income — earn by inviting new users through your unique referral link.
- Storage Rental — Otvut is a distributed social network. You can rent your unused storage to the network and earn passive income.
Copied or republished content will not be monetized. Always post your own original work.
How does Storage Rental work?
Otvut is a
distributed social media network — content is spread across many
nodes rather than a single central server. This gives you a unique opportunity:
- Enable Storage Rental in Settings.
- Allocate the amount of unused storage you want to rent to the network.
- Your device becomes a node that helps store Otvut content.
- You earn passive income based on uptime and storage contributed.
Keeping your device online more often increases your
storage rental earnings.
How does Referral Income work?
- Go to Settings → Referral Program.
- Copy your unique referral link.
- Share it with friends, family, or on social media.
- When they sign up and become active users, you earn referral income.
We use AI to detect invalid referral accounts (fake
signups, bots, duplicate accounts). Attempting to abuse the referral system will result in
loss of earnings and possible account suspension.
When can I withdraw my earnings?
Withdrawal availability depends on:
- Your verified account status
- The minimum payout threshold for your region
- Supported payout methods in your country
For the current payout schedule, please
contact support from your
account's registered email.
Posting Content
Rules for uploading posts, images, videos and articles.
- On the home feed, tap the "Create Post" button (usually at the top).
- Choose the type: Photo / Video / Article / Audio / Poll / Feels.
- Upload your content — only your own original work.
- Add a caption, tags and privacy settings.
- Tap Publish.
Why is my post not being monetized?
Content is
not monetized if it violates our rules:
- It was copied or downloaded from the internet
- It was republished from another Otvut user
- It contains nudity or adult content
- It promotes violence, terrorism or hate groups
- It advertises prohibited products
Always post original work. Search Otvut first to see if
someone else has already uploaded similar content.
How do I report a violating post or user?
- Tap the three-dot menu on the post or profile.
- Select Report.
- Choose the reason and submit.
You can also email
report@otvut.com with a link to the
post/profile and a description. Our moderation team reviews every report within 24 hours.
How do I block or unfollow someone?
Open the user's profile → tap the
three-dot menu → choose
Block or
Unfollow.
- Unfollow: You stop seeing their posts in your feed.
- Block: They can no longer message you, see your profile, or interact with you.
Troubleshooting
Solutions to common issues.
Login is not working on my device.
Try these steps in order:
- Make sure your phone's biometric (fingerprint / face) is working.

Videos are not playing or are very slow.
Video playback issues are usually network-related:
- Switch from mobile data to Wi-Fi, or vice versa.
- Move closer to your router.
- Close other apps using bandwidth.
- Lower the video quality from the player settings.
- Restart the app.
If videos still fail,
contact support with a screenshot.

- Restart your phone.
- Clear the app cache (not data).
- Check your phone has enough free storage (at least 1 GB).
If the crash persists, please
report it to support with the exact time and
what you were doing — screenshots help us a lot.
I'm not receiving notifications.
Check your phone's notification permissions:
- Open phone Settings → Apps → Otvut → Notifications.
- Enable all notification categories (messages, likes, comments, etc.).
- Disable battery optimization / "Sleep mode" for Otvut.
- Inside the Otvut app, check Settings → Notifications are enabled.
Dark / Light mode is not switching.
- Tap the moon/sun icon in the right sidebar (desktop) or bottom menu (mobile).
- Refresh the page once — the new theme should apply immediately.
- If using "Auto" mode, Otvut follows your phone's system theme.
If the theme keeps reverting, clear your browser/app cache
once and try again.
Upload fails with a storage or size error.
- Check available storage in Settings → Storage.
- Free up space by removing old uploads or downloads.
- If renting storage to the network, reduce your rented allocation temporarily.
