Why does the mobile phone battery swell? Pay attention to these 5 things

Does the back cover of your mobile phone suddenly feel a little high? If you look closely, you will see that the battery part has swollen. Although it may seem unusual, this is not something to be taken lightly. When a smartphone battery swells, not only does it damage the mobile but also puts the user's safety at risk.

Experts say that if a battery swells, it is important to repair it quickly. Otherwise, incidents like fire or explosion may occur.

Current smartphones use lithium-ion polymer batteries. Inside these batteries, chemicals and electrolytes are contained between thin layers of metal and plastic. They are usually kept in a special sealed package (aluminum bag). This package is heat-sealed so that outside air cannot enter.
However, due to long-term use or incorrect charging, the chemicals inside the battery turn into gas. Then the sealed bag bursts and the battery starts to swell.

Main reasons for battery swelling:

Overcharging: Leaving the battery on charge for a long time builds up pressure inside the battery.

Overheating:  If the phone's processor overheats, it can also damage the battery.

Using a low-quality charger or cable: Cheap or unauthorized chargers quickly shorten battery life.

Battery life ends: Older batteries undergo more chemical changes, resulting in the production of gas.

Short circuit or defect: If there is a defect inside the phone, it increases the risk of the battery swelling.

What risks could there be?

A swollen battery not only damages the structure of the mobile phone, but also poses a risk of explosion or fire. Sometimes, chemical gases or liquids from the battery can be released and cause serious damage if they come into contact with the skin or eyes.

If a battery explodes, it can also be dangerous to people or things nearby.

What to do if the battery is swollen

1. Turn off the mobile phone immediately and remove the charger.
2. If possible, remove the battery gently.
3. Under no circumstances should the battery be punctured or cut, as this poses a risk of explosion.
4. If the mobile or battery is hot, keep it in a cool place, but not near water.
5. Take the battery to a trusted and authorized service center to replace it.

However, technology experts believe that the safest way to deal with a swollen battery is to seek expert help quickly.
