How to remove stains from walls

If you have a naughty child at home, the walls of the house become their sketchbook! Sometimes pencil marks, sometimes permanent marker marks, ruin the walls. Again, oil and spice stains on the kitchen walls spoil the beauty. But there is no reason to worry. There are ways to remove all types of stains from the walls.

  • An easy way to remove pencil marks from walls is to use an eraser. Small to medium marks can be removed using an eraser. Melamine foam eraser or melamine foam sponge is one of the most common ways to remove pencil marks from any wall.
  • If you have a pen stain on your wall, you can remove it with nail polish remover. It contains ethyl acetate and isopropyl alcohol, which can easily remove pen ink stains. Apply nail polish remover to the stain and wipe it off with a piece of cotton or a toothbrush. You can also apply toothpaste to the pen stain and wipe it off with a cloth.
  • Removing colored marker stains from walls is a bit trickier than removing pen and pencil stains. These stains tend to blend into the wall surface and become absorbed. Apply a solution of one part white vinegar to one part soap and warm water to the stain. Scrub the mixture with a toothbrush and wipe with a microfiber cloth.
  • If you get a permanent marker stain on your wall, immediately wipe it off with a cloth soaked in water. Mix one part water and three parts baking soda and apply the mixture to the stain. Wipe the paste off with a cloth and spread toothpaste on the stain. Rub gently and wipe off with a damp cloth.
  • If there are stains on newly painted walls, you can remove them with soap and water.
  • If the weather is damp in the house, black spots may appear on the walls. This is caused by a type of fungus. Try and ensure that there is enough light and air circulation in the house. Wipe the stained area with a solution of baking soda and liquid soap.
  • Oil spills on kitchen walls are sticky. Mix one part white vinegar and one part detergent with water. Use a spray bottle to apply to the wall stain. Wait a few minutes and then wipe off with a microfiber cloth.
