Can the habit of staying up late watching reels cause high blood pressure?

Nowadays, smartphones have become an integral part of our lives. The trend of watching short videos or reels is increasing day by day. Many of us spend our time watching reels at night. But do you know that this habit is gradually having a negative impact on our health? A recent study has shown that watching excessive reels at night may increase the risk of high blood pressure (hypertension).

Link between staying up late watching movies and high blood pressure

A recent study conducted on 4,318 participants found that those who regularly watch short videos on screens before going to bed are more likely to have high blood pressure than others. According to experts, the blue light from screens at night reduces the production of melatonin hormone in our brain. This hormone plays an important role in determining our sleep schedule. As a result, night waking leads to sleep deprivation, which can be a direct cause of high blood pressure.

Why is it more harmful to stay up late watching reels?

We often hear that watching TV or working on the computer should not be done for long periods of time. But the level of harm can be even greater when watching short videos. This is because:

1) Continuous scrolling habit : Reels or short videos are very short and engaging, making it difficult to stop watching once you start watching. This delays sleep time.

2) Increased stress: The content of reels can be varied—entertaining, scary, exciting, or sad. They affect our emotions and can increase stress , which is one of the reasons for increased blood pressure.

3) Lack of exercise: Sleeping late at night means waking up late in the morning, resulting in reduced physical activity. Lack of regular exercise makes it difficult to control blood pressure in the body.

4) Unhealthy eating habits: Many people eat unhealthy foods or drink coffee while awake at night, which can increase the risk of high blood pressure.

How can this problem be solved?

If you want to reduce the habit of watching reels or short videos and avoid the risk of high blood pressure, you can follow the following ways:

1) Set a specific time: Try to stay away from screens at least 30 minutes before going to bed at night.

2) Use a blue light filter: Keep your phone's 'night mode' or 'blue light filter' turned on, which will reduce the negative effects on the eyes and brain.

3) Practice deep breathing: Practicing meditation or deep breathing for a while before going to sleep will reduce stress.

4) Read a book or listen to music: Reading a book or listening to soft music instead of screens before bed can be beneficial for sleep.

5) Increase physical activity: Walk or exercise for at least 30 minutes every day, which will help control blood pressure.

While staying up late watching movies may seem like a good way to entertain yourself, it can be harmful to our health. Especially in the long run, it can lead to various diseases including high blood pressure. So we should maintain a proper sleep routine and follow a healthy lifestyle by reducing screen time at night. Good sleep means a healthy body, and a healthy body means a happy life!
